An Opportunity?

In 2010 Bishop James Jones had a vision for St James Church in Toxteth, and the Parish council commissioned members of the present charity to review how best the Church could grow. A directive to utilise its history was forwarded, the Church’s 1775 interior held many plaques and artifacts related to the slave trade. Indeed the Church itself was predominantly built from slave merchant’s funding, where many black servants were baptised over 200 years ago. Archbishop Sentamu had high ambition that the Church could become a beacon for hope and reconciliation through proposals to add a Memorial. During this period, 6 acres of land was offered, courtesy of the then Mayor Joe Anderson.
